About the room
Colophon
SlipRoom takes its name from an old scholar’s habit: write each idea on its own slip of paper, file it where it belongs, and come back to it when it is ready to become something longer. We built a small reading room around that habit.
A room, not a feed
Every writer here keeps a shelf of their own at a short address, /their-handle/. On it they file essays, working notes, reading logs and long pieces, sorted into drawers they name themselves. Readers walk in, take down whatever interests them, and read it on a quiet page. There is no endless scroll, no ranking and nothing asking for attention in the margins.
Who writes here
Writer accounts are by invitation only, and there is no public sign-up. Keeping the room small keeps it calm and lets us look after the shelves properly. Reading, on the other hand, is open to anyone: no account, no paywall and no cookies for readers.
How we keep it
- Pages are plain HTML and CSS, rendered on the server, light enough for a slow connection and readable on a phone.
- Vietnamese and other accented scripts are set in typefaces that carry every diacritic properly.
- Comments are welcome from anyone with a name to give, and each one is read by a moderator before it appears.
- There is no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking of any kind.
- Writers keep ownership of their work and can ask for it to be taken down at any time.
Writing to us
The SlipRoom team reads every message sent through the contact page, which is the only way to reach us. For the details of what we store, see the privacy notice.
